Project Play Summit Set For D.C.

Project Play was created by the Aspen Institute Sports and Society program in 2013 to “find ways to help all children in America become active through sports,” according to the report. This is the first report from the group, which cited numbers saying that only 40 percent of children played a team sport regularly in 2013, down from 44.5 percent in 2008. SFA and SFM’s Dev Pathik contributed to the report and joined a panel of industry experts to collaborate on providing sufficient access to sport and physical activity sites for communities.

One of the reasons for the increase in travel for children still competing is the specialization in one sport at an earlier age, Lisa Delpy Neirotti, an associate professor of sport management at George Washington University, told CNBC.
